FOR THE KENTUCKY GAZETTE.

THE WARRIOR'S GRAVE.

"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori."

Oh! shew me the grave of the gallant Montgomery,
who fell for his country on Abraham's heights:
Oh! is there no tomb to hand down his memory,
And snatch from oblivion eternity's rights.

No! Columbia ungrateful, thy conscience reprove thee,
Thou hast slighted thy valiant, thy noblest son;
Oh! haste whilst thou may to repair the sad injury.
For Columbia ungrateful, is Columbia undone

But the name of Montgomery, like a rivulet perennial
Shall glide through the vista of unnumbered years,
Shall strengthen its course till the approaching millenium,
When it shall sweep o'er its banks by the tribute of tears.

High on a column in fame's brilliant Temple,
Is the name of the hero by glory inscribed;
There his deeds are recorded, his honors are ample,
And the neglect of his country in life he shall behold, no scrus.
