Jennings B. Springer became director of a program of rehabilitation established by the Virginia Heart Association. April 1.
The new program is designed to help return heart patients to useful living. Appointment of Springer to the executive position was made by Dr. George S Grier. III of Newport News. president of the association.
A native of Buckingham county. Springer graduated from Hampden-Sydney College, magna cum laude, with an A.B. degree in 193. He has done graduate work at the University of Richmond and Richmond Professional Institute.
Held State Post Prior to acceptance of his new
post. Springer served as district supervisor. vocational rehabilitation service. State Department of Education. He was a secondary school teacher, with the exception of military service, until late 1946. In 1947. he was assistant professor of English at RPI. and in the following year he became district supervisor. on-the-job training. State Department of Education. In July 1949 he took the rehabilitation appointment with the State Department of Education. a position he held until April 1:
He is a member of the National Vocational Guidance Association and a professional member of the American Personnel and Guidance Association.
The New Program The VHA's new program. Dr. Grier said, will be one of coordination. study, recommendations and information - dissemination. Springer will determine facilities available to recuperating heart patients. and he will recommend additional services, if needed.
He will work with appropriate groups, both local and statewide, to formulate immediate and long range goals of program development. Dr. Grier explained that he would be responsible for spearheading an intensive program of education and information about the needs of cardiacs for rehabilitation and how they can be best met Results anticipated. continued the association president.are an increasing awareness by physicians
