Full Text

AWFUL.—A Mr. Weatherford, sheriff of Schuyler county, Mo., having collected some $2200 of the county revenue, conceived a plan of putting the money in his pocket. For this purpose he left home, leaving the money with his wife, and charged her to take care of it saying he would be back in a few days. The next night he returned with several others, disguised as negroes, and entered the house and demanded the money. Of course, his wife was scared; but after having delivered a part of the money, she got hold of a pair of pistols, and shot one of the persons, who proved to be her husband. The others fled.

The above is a hoax perpetrated by some wag of the Press.
