Charlotte, N. C.--(Special) -Six indictments, naming five former convict camp officials have been returned by the Mecklenburg County grand jury following into the probe of the alleged torturous treatment of two convicts which resulted in the amputation of both of their legs.
The men named in the indictments are H. C. Little, former superintendent of the "Little" convict camp: Dr. C. S. McLaughlin, former county prison camp physician, and R. C. Rane, T. M. Gordon and J. W. Eudy, the latter three guards.
The former camp officials were charged with refusal to discharge their duty, torturing, neglect and assault with intent to kill.
Woodrow Wilson Shropshire and Robert Barnes, both 19 years old were the victims of this alleged cruelty. Young Shropshire, who testified at a recent hearing, has completed his term while Barnes is in the state prison hospital at Raleigh.
