From the Milwaukee Free Democrat.

Dr. C. N. Ormsby formerly of Ann Arbor, is elected to the House of Assembly, in the California Legislature.

They are now publishing six daily papers in San Francisco-more than there are in any city in England except London.

The desperadoes are beginning to flock into San Francisco from the mines, to pass the winter, and crime is rapidly increasing. Robberies are frequently committed in open day.

A large number of Chinese recently arrived at Sacramento.

Grapes in great abundance and of most excellent quality are raised in California.

Dr. Hastings charged the Mayor of Sacramento City $4000 for medical attendance, and Dr. Bowie $500 as consulting physician. It will be remembered the Mayor lost a limb when attacked by the mob.

Albert Clarke, a brother of Grace Greenwood, now in California, and another young man from N. York, were lately driven out in a gale into the bay of San Francisco, in a little pleasure boat. The boat first capsized when their provisions, blankets, &c., were lost. The companion of Clark, died from cold, during the night; but the boat drifted to land and Clark was saved.

The Postage Receipts at San Francisco, from January, 1849, to June last, were $773,000.

About 1500 women are on the way to California, by the overland route.

A society of New Englanders has been formed at San Francisco, which organized with 100 members.

The King of the Sandwich Islands has forbid further emigration, of the natives to California.

A lump of gold weighing 13 pounds has been found by a Mexican. It was discovered in a creek.

An Indian, of the Gray Head tribe, has found his way to California, from the coast of Massachusetts.
