Funeral Services Saturday—An Alleged Bogus Nephew Appears.
The funeral of John and Jane Reilly, the victims of the mysterious double tragedy which created a sensation last week, took place Saturday from St. Matthew's church. The attendance was very large. Hibernian Society No. 1 had charge of the funeral arrangements and turned out in a body. Rev. Father Boyle officiated, and in his funeral discourse said that he cheerfully accorded them the rights of Christian burial, as no one could believe their deaths were premeditated or occasioned by their voluntary act. The procession, headed by the two hearses, proceeded then to Mount Olivet cemetery, where they were placed temporarily in the vault. The funeral procession was very long. Mr. Edward Reilly, father of the deceased man, has been heard from, and is in Bristol, Rhode Island. He is expected here. Friday night a sailor who claimed to be a nephew of Reilly appeared at the residence of Mr. Walsh from which the remains were taken to church. He said that he came from Norfolk in response to a telegraphic summons from a friend in South Washington. He was closely interrogated by Mr. Walsh, and exhibited such ignorance of his alleged deceased uncle's family relations that it was concluded that he was an impostor, attracted by the small property left by Reilly. The friends of the deceased appear to be convinced that Reilly and his wife were murdered, and will not accept the theory of suicide.
