HOME RULE MEETING
Large Gathering in Favor of Home Rule for Ireland Held at Chicago—Governor Oglesby Presided.

CHICAGO, May 26.—Fully ten thousand people attended the Irish Home Rule meeting in Battery D Armory last night. Gov. Oglesby, who presided at the meeting, was escorted to the hall by the Hibernian Rifles and Clan-na-Gael Guards as a guard of honor. Resolutions were passed unanimously declaring heartfelt sympathy for the people of Ireland in their endeavors to secure the restoration of the native Parliament; congratulating the Irish people on the sagacity, courage and fidelity of their great leader; assuring the great English Premier that the crowning act of his political career has won for him the respect and admiration of the American people; pledging the continued support of Irish-American citizens to their kindred and denouncing the atrocious calumnies of the Tory press, which charged the Irish-American citizens of Chicago with the responsibility for the recent outrages of the Anarchist element. A cablegram was sent to Mr. Parnell expressing admiration of Mr. Parnell and his associates for their tireless efforts and appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. Gladstone to liberty and humanity by the introduction of his bill to restore legislative independence to Ireland. Governor Oglesby, Mr. Alexander Sullivan, Hon. Burt Dexter and Hon. John F. Finerty were the principal speakers. At the close of the meeting Alderman Sheridan sang the Irish national anthem, "God Save Ireland," the audience joining in the chorus.
