Although voting for a resolution endorsing Legislative Secretary Alphonso Holder for the position of Government Secretary, members of the Legislature were said this week to be actively backing Senator John D. Merwin for the post. Senators Merwin, Anduze, Lawaetz and de Lugo were scheduled to be taken to the White House this week by Anthony Lausi, Director of Territories, to be introduced to the President. The introduction was arranged by Mr. Lausi in appreciation of the work done by the coalition group, especially on the V.I. Code.
If Mr. Merwin gets the Government Secretaryship, Henry Richardsen, chairman of the St. Croix Democratic Party, will be appointed to the legislature to succeed Merwin, it was said.
