This Day we were informed by Letters, bearing Date the first of this Month, that this kind of Volcano was attended with no Effects that indicated continued or future Eruptions; that the Chasm appeared afterwards to close, that the Waters of the Sea, having covered for two Days the Extent of Ground the Sea overflowed, retired; that the Consternation, which was very great at the Sight of these new Phænomena, was since dissipated, but that the same could not be said of the Uneasiness numbers of Persons were afflicted with: on beholding the calamities to which this dismal Situation might still expose the unhappy Remains of Lisbon.
