On Tuesday a battle was fought in a field near Knightsbridge, between one Brooker, a chair-man, and a man, known by the name of Birch-tree Jack, for a sum of money, amounting to near four hundred pounds, laid by gentlemen. The battle was the most desperate ever known, the combatants having fought successively 43 minutes, and, during the contests, several hundred pounds were won and lost. Both the men were so much hurt and bruised, that the gentlemen present thought proper to part them; and leave the decision to another day.
