Tries To Push
Wife Over Cliff

CARMEL. Oct. 6. (U.P.)—The motive for Raymond Brown's sudden maniacal attempt to throw his wife over a precipice and his own plunge to death on the rocks at Point Lobos remained a mystery today as Mrs. Brown, an amateur painter, sat at an easel, her husband suddenly seized her by the throat and tried to push her over the brink of a 175 foot cliff.

Major D. B. Lonninger of Monterey Presidio, who was taking a Sunday stroll with his wife, ran to Mrs. Brown's assistance. Seeing Major Lonninger, Brown abandoned the struggle.

"Goodbye, dear. This is the end,"
he shouted and leaped over the cliff.
