Full Text

Crosscutting East.
There is a report current in Virginia that a crosscut is being run east on the Union 2400 level and from the Union shaft. Although the report lacks official confirmation, it also lacks official contradiction so far as learned. At any rate, men are commenting on it and the probabilities ahead of it and all that, just as though they knew the crosscut to be a veritable fact. The distance to the east clay from the shaft is, by these speculators, put at from 130 to 140 feet. The crosscut has, according to reports, been running some days. C street, therefore, is determined to have it in ore by the fore part of next week, and in the meantime makes it cut through the same kind of rock as was found in the bottom of the shaft.
