Event Details
The Protest of the Clergy of France complains loudly of the abrupt Manner in which the Assembly was dismissed, and of their Deputies not being admitted into the King's Presence, as the Custom always had been. The highest Praises are intermixed throughout of his Most Christian Majesty, only it is insinuated, that his Ears are open to some who have less Regard for Religion than their Royal Master ; but at the Close they roundly declare, that the voluntary Marks they have from Time to Time given of their Zeal and Affection to the Crown shall never be converted into a Tribute of servile Obedience.
