NEW FEDERAL PAPER, &C.

A federal paper stated the "White Mountain Egis," has been established at Lancaster, in the County of Coos, in this State. It is the first paper ever published in that County.

The strong democratic character of Coos County has always rendered it an "eye sore" to the federalists and they have now resolved to attempt to poison the mind of the people there by the introduction of one of their foul mouthed vehicles; but we trust the indomitable spirit of the sturdy yeomanry of that mountain region will be invulnerable to the schemes of federal falsifiers.

Notwithstanding the democratic character of this State, the federalists have ever had the majority of the presses at their command. They now stand seven democratic to eleven federal. The following is the classification:

New Hampshire Gazette, Portsmouth Journal,
New Hampshire Patriot, Concord Statesman,
Dover Gazette, Concord Courier,
Nashua Gazette New Hampshire Observer
Newport Argus & Spect'r Herald of Freedom,
Farmers' Museum, Dover Enquirer.
Haverhill Republican,-7. Nashua Telegraph,
Farmers' Cabinet,
Keen Sentinel,
Claremont Eagle,
White Mountain Aegis, 11.

There are one or two professedly neutral papers, and a religious paper at Dover, which might as well be classed where they belong, viz. in the federal ranks.

The Patriot intimates that the four federal papers at Concord are supported by other means than their receipts from subscribers. for even when there has been but one federal paper there, it has never been able to sustain itself. We have always suspected that three or four of the federal papers in this State have been quartered upon us by foreign influence and receive extraneous support. The Concord Courier and Herald of Freedom, particularly, and we may now say the new paper in Coos County, are, we firmly believe the hireling and venal instruments of foreign federalists, and are by them mainly supported in their attempts to deceive the people of this State into the support of federal men and measures. How many of the other federal papers in the State receive largesses and accommodations from the same source we can only guess, but are quite doubtful whether more than two or three of them receive their whole support from the people.
