Of Gen. Fickel

The appearance of the men and physical facilities of Keesler Field drew the praise of Maj. Gen. Jacob E. Fickel, Commanding General of the Third District, Army Air Forces Technical Training Command, during a day-long inspection of the field last week.

General Fickel told Col. Robert E. M. Goolrick, Commanding Officer of Keesler Field, that he particularly was impressed with progress in construction projects, which include a new theatre, new Bachelor Officers' Quarters and warehouses. These projects were inspected by the General, accompanied by the Colonel. General Fickel also lauded the appearance of the men and the Air Force Band which he reviewed at Post Headquarters on arriving at the Field.

At noon the General was honor guest at a buffet luncheon in the Officers' Club. His official party included Col. L. W. Ballantyne and Capt. P. S. Sherman. He flew to Gulfport from Third District Headquarters at Tulsa, Okla., and drove here.

In addition to tours of the field in both the morning and afternoon General Fickel conferred with field officers in Colonel Goolrick's office.
