Full Text

TILLEN and REYNOLDS.—William Tillen, and Caesar Reynolds are to be executed at Hartford, Con. on the 5th September next, for murder, committed at the State Prison last spring. The prisoners were sentenced on the last Friday in June, but the Legislature postponed the execution to the first Friday in September. The counsel for the prisoners raised an objection that the proceeding was null and void, and the Legislature had no authority to do this; the postponement by the Court which tried them, cannot now legally be carried into effect. Judge Peters has decided that the act is constitutional, consequently the prisoners will be executed at the time appointed.
