Full Text

For the Massachusetts Spy.

Mr. THOMAS,

THE more we contemplate the grand UNION of the colonies, the more shall we be struck with its vast importance, not only to the Americans, but to Great Britain, for by this grand event, Britain may be brought to see her error and to repent before it is too late, and thereby an amicable alliance take place, which may be the foundation of Britain's future glory. It is really of much greater importance to Britain to have the dispute settled to the satisfaction of the Americans than it is to them, for they are growing every day, and will soon, be able to do themselves justice, and avenge the injuries they have so long suffered; therefore, whoever loves Britain ought to use his influence, that she may now listen to the call of the Americans, and make peace with them. Wise men have long been astonished at the conduct of Britain, she has for a course of years been working out her own ruin, and teaching the Americans to be entirely independent of, and unconnected with her. Such strange conduct in an enlightened nation is perhaps unparallelled in the history of mankind.
