Full Text

Presidential and Political Prospects.—Recent correspondence from Washington assures us, that "nothing decisive has transpired relative to the result of the election of President. It is considered very generally, that either Gen. Jackson or Mr. Adams must be chosen. The unpopularity of the Caucus, and the Caucus-Address, would sink even a stronger man than Mr. Crawford. Public opinion seems to have decided, that whatever may go up, Caucus and Combination must go down. Hereafter, political men may expect to act upon a clear deck, and with fair play. So far the people ought to rejoice.—Mr. Calhoun's election as Vice-President by so great a vote, indicates a salutary and excellent state of public feeling. He has been supported, throughout, as a liberal, national man—and his triumph is complete.—Many of the men who have advocated the Caucus principle may be very honest, but they must be mistaken, and must not have understood the signs of the times."
