Full Text
These resolutions reaffirm the fixed determination of Massachusetts to resist the extension of slavery into any of the territories of the United States, and to seek the abolition of slavery and the slave trade in the District of Columbia; and, as far as in their power lay, to withdraw the influence of the government from the support of slavery; that they will follow these principles, deterred by no threat of disunion, or fear of consequences.
As Judge Sharkey says, the whig press of the south, generally, have no denunciations for Massachusetts fanaticism; it is all poured out upon southern men-the movers of the Nashville Convention.

Event Details
Despite Mr. Webster's speech hoping to rest the slavery subject, the Massachusetts Legislature passed resolutions to resist slavery's extension into US territories, seek abolition in the District of Columbia, withdraw government support from slavery, and follow these principles regardless of disunion threats or consequences. Southern Whig press denounces southern men rather than Massachusetts fanaticism, per Judge Sharkey.
