The Cumberland Independent says "everybody is talking about Mr. J. B. Shannon, of Frostburg, as the most popular candidate on the democratic ticket. Mr. Shannon is an excellent fellow." Unquestionably true. Shannon is a gloriously excellent fellow, and if the truth be stated of his leading competitor, he is a long way ahead in qualifications for the office of Register of Wills.
Frostburg, outside of "Big 26," has several other nominees of merit. George Kear and W. H. Price, for the House of Delegates, representative of mining element; E. H. B. Pritchard, complimented by renomination for County Commissioner is an excellent citizen; W. H. Kreitzberg, Peter Lambert and John Chambers are respectable and capable nominees for Tax Collector, and, altogether, the Frostburg roster is pretty good. The only darkening inglorious feature of the whole business is-one party, with a very weak delegation, slighted "Big 26," and the other slighted her. And thus has come to pass the saying-"Big 26" is in a two-fold sense "the doubly unlucky 13."
It is said that some of the home-proud politicians of "Big 26" are bemoaning the fates which placed the political fortunes of the "Double 13" in such weak hands. After election, however, something will be done with each monkey's kid of the defalcators in order to prepare him for the ennui of his future political state.
During the recent primary campaign Fred. Bepler, a politician of good shape and slick tongue, gave promise of usefulness to his party as a thorn in the flesh of the State committee-man of unfortunate "Big 26." What has become of him?
