New Year's day will be just another day for Joseph Skonieczy, West Allis saloonkeeper, who is in the county jail waiting action on contempt of court charges.
The West Allis dispenser of bottled cheer tried to obstruct justice by sending a proxy, Valentine Godosz, to serve the house of correction term of 60 days he received from Judge F. A. Geiger Nov. 15.
Wife's Plea Denied.
The plot was discovered eight days ago by federal officials, after Godosz had completed 30 days of the stretch for Skonieczy.
Mrs. Skonieczy asked federal officials yesterday to release her husband for the holiday, but her request was not granted.
Face Contempt Charges.
The situation as it stood yesterday was that Godosz is still in the house of correction though he has no right to be there, and Skonieczy was in the county jail when he should be in the house of correction.
Both men probably will be tried later for contempt of court.
