FOREST FIRES ON THE COAST

Portland, Ore., July 24.—Dry weather has been productive of half a dozen serious forest fires, now burning in western Oregon and southern Washington.

One, in the neighborhood of Milwaukie, has reached live timber and destroyed a logging camp. This fire already has caused a loss of $75,000 and still is uncontrolled.

Another serious fire is about fifteen miles east of Oregon City, in the live timber along Clear creek, and has a front of five miles.

The government forest service, assisted by large numbers of men from the neighborhoods, are fighting both these fires.
