"Doping" Flowers.
From the Savannah News.

A new and thoroughly demonstrated method of keeping cut flowers-of some varieties, at least-fresh has been found by Georgia flower-lovers. For example, chrysanthemums have been kept, after being cut, perfectly fresh and "live" for six or seven weeks by dissolving in the water in the vase in which they were kept a tablet of aspirin, renewing the dose every few days. Science has been prescribing medicine for growing plants for a long time, but the common use of simple remedies to keep the blossoms alive and fresh is not generally in fashion.
