Event Details
In discussing the bill making an appropriation of $6,000 for the extinguishment of Indian titles to certain reserved sections of land in the state of Georgia, Mr. Tattnall, a hasty and fiery member of that state, supported the bill, and Mr. Metcalf of Kentucky opposed it. Mr. Tattnall spoke of Mr. M. in terms which were considered rather insinuating. Mr. M. replied in a cool and dignified manner, but with great severity, and Mr. T. in consequence sent him a challenge.
