Messrs. Editors:-

I beg leave to make a few remarks with regard to the present flourishing condition of the Female School at Shongalo—at this time under the immediate charge and superintendence of Messrs. Hughes & Laps. I attended not long since an examination of the Students (Female) of said Institution, and cannot withhold this public expression of the delight and gratification which I experienced in witnessing the proficiency manifested by the pupils in the various studies. The rigid and scrupulous examination which they underwent with honor and credit to themselves, also gave an earnest of the high qualifications, diligence and industry of their worthy Teachers. The School is large and prosperous, situated at a most beautiful, retired and healthy spot. The examination which lasted two days, was concluded by an interesting debate between the senior boys of the Male Department. The debate was spirited and logical, and evinced great investigation; and the young gentlemen engaged in it, promise at some future period of life, to figure in a more prominent and useful sphere.

But their advancement in learning and useful information, is the result of hard study and great rapidity with which they have acquired it. The qualifications not combined in all of this profession—industrious and prudent Teachers.

He who undertakes to train the youth the way in which it should go, has a task, at once, delicate, responsible, and in the capacity of teachers of the rising generation, whether viewing them as keepers of the village, I take the greatest pleasure in according to them, talents, skill and industry on the one hand, and a courteous bearing on the other.—Success to them in their efforts, and a liberal patronage from the public.
