Oh, my countrymen, exclaims a correspondent; through how many scenes and changes must we pass! the wide, the unbounded prospect lies before us—but, shadows, clouds, and darkness rest upon it—Here will I hold—if there is a power in heaven, or if there is a power, and wisdom, in the FEDERAL CONVENTION. it must delight in obliterating every discordant sentence from the Federal system of government, and rendering efficient, TO all the purposes of BENEFIT, HONOR, and RESPECTABILITY, the articles of confederation of the United States of America—then, that which they delight in must be happy.
