Full Text

From the Pittsfield (Mass.) Sun.

The treatment of Mr. Osborn, editor of the Witness, a republican newspaper published at Litchfield, Ct. has excited general attention. Federalists having a strong majority in that county and state, and possessing all the judicial and other state and county authorities, appear determined to crush the editor of that paper, by fines, whips, cudgels, actions, prosecutions, fines, imprisonment and close confinement in a dark, damp, noisome, penitential dungeon with maniacs and felons to the certain injury of his health, and the probable risk of his life: while libels of the most atrocious nature, against the public and private characters of their political opponents, are, from week to week, published in their federal newspapers with impunity--While we compassionate the victim of their party vengeance, we trust that such violent one sided justice in that or any other county, state, will prove to be as impolitic as it is barbarous and detestable.
