WHAT THE WIND SAYS.
Through the city rushing wildly,
Midst the haunts of vice and pain.
Through the mansions of the wealthy,
Sweeping proudly with disdain;
Through the forests, o'er the lea.
Always saying—"Follow me."
Through the village, whiling gaily,
Where the happy children play,
Quickly o'er the dreary hillside,
Where the traveler plods his way ;
Ever onward, never weary,
Always saying—"Follow me."
Rustling through the yellow grain fields.
Where the weary reapers ply,
Through the valley, where the lovers
Pluck the lilies laugh and sigh ;
Midst the lightnings, o'er the sea
Always saying-"Follow me."
Follow thee where? Oh! wailing wind
Dost dwell in the azure depths?
Would we a heaven some day find
By pressing on thy footsteps?
It hastened onward to the sea.
And only murmured-"Follow me."
