Interesting Data Contained in Director-General Davis' Report.
The report of Director-General Davis, of the Columbian Exposition just issued, is replete with interesting data. It occupies about 3,500 pages of printed and typewritten matter, mostly the latter, illustrated by about 2,000 photographs.
The history of the exposition is described in five periods, each terminated by some notable act or event. To each a chapter is devoted, with one upon the exhibits, and one upon the close and distribution of exhibits.
The first chapter covers the period of inception, and the next the several steps that led to the ultimate establishment of the vast enterprise. The third chapter is in two divisions—one relating to construction and the other dealing with the work of commissioners sent abroad.
The fourth chapter is devoted to the process of allotment, and the fifth dwells at length upon the efforts and accomplishments of the administrators. A general review of the exhibits is contained in the sixth chapter while the last refers to the ceremonies with which the exposition was to be closed.
