At the last meeting of the City Council, the question of transferring the old Hope Fire Engine to the Guards Fire company, was discussed, but laid upon the table. The Hope company, as is well known, was disbanded, some years ago, since which time this engine has been lying idle and deteriorating in value by rust, and for want of proper care. The Guards company would doubtless take good care of the engine; but if the engine is transferred, all hopes of organizing a new company in the second Ward will be abandoned. On the other hand, if the engine remains where it is, it must become comparatively useless in time, so that the question of its transfer is one which ought to be well considered.— The Council has agreed to purchase hose for the fire companies now organized, and seems to be disposed to treat the department more liberally than heretofore. We think, therefore, in view of the latter fact, that if the people of the Second and Third Wards will consider the importance of having at least one company near where such valuable property is located, that the old Hope may be speedily organized. We hope some step may be speedily taken in this direction by the Council before the next meeting.
