Law Will Safeguard Children From Being Trapped in Refrigerators

WASHINGTON (P) The nation has a new law designed to save children from being trapped and suffocating while playing inside refrigerators.

President Eisenhower yesterday signed a bill banning interstate shipment of any household refrigerator that is not equipped with a door that can be opened easily from the inside.

The ban is effective in two years. In the meantime, manufacturers will be expected to adopt safety devices under standards to be met by the government.
