A letter of Nov. 30th from Kingston, Jam., in the Evening Post, contains the following:
'The cholera has been an awful visitation to us. In this city, of 40,000, about one-tenth of the population have fallen. In the small town of Port Royal, upwards of one-fourth have died; and in Spanish Town there has been nearly a like proportion. It has in a great measure subsided here. The deaths have diminished from 250 a day, probably the maximum of only one day's mortality, to 27, which I believe was that of last night. In Port Royal it wholly subsided eight or ten days ago; and it is nearly or altogether the same in Spanish Town. It is raging in other districts, and I doubt not that though it is about leaving Kingston and its vicinity, that it will accomplish a deadly work in other districts ere it be exhausted.
The mortality has been chiefly among the lower classes. The negroes, in their low filthy houses, with their bad habits, and disadvantages of all sorts, have been the chief victims. There have been comparatively few deaths of persons in good positions; but these have been increasing latterly, and we all still live under considerable apprehension.'
