Let Charity Begin at Home.
It is a matter of regret to the Journal,
which is an exponent of fair play and
good feeling among the people of the
various towns of the Hills, that a base
ball game can scarce be played between
teams representing two such towns with-
out a wrangle. It is not at all credita-
ble, but it seems to be the fact neverthe-
less. Pride of locality is a very good
thing, but when it goes so far as to
prompt foul play in order to avoid de-
feat it becomes a vice rather than a vir-
tue. Old residents of the Hills will re-
member the hose races, base ball matches
end other contests of years ago. Sel-
dom were they decided without a wran-
gle. The bitterness of feeling engen-
dered in them still exists to some extent.
In the name of fair play it would be bet-
ter that such contests cease altogether if
they cannot be conducted fairly.-Rapid
Journal.

The Journal regrets that baseball games between teams from various towns of the Hills often involve wrangles and foul play due to excessive pride of locality. It recalls past hose races and baseball matches that were seldom decided without wrangles, with lingering bitterness. It suggests such contests should cease if they cannot be conducted fairly.
