BRIDGEWORKERS TO STRIKE.
Buchanan May Order General Walkout On Big Company.

New Haven, Conn., Aug. 1.--According to the announcement made here today Frank Buchanan, international president of the Bridge and Structural Iron Workers' union has informed the officers of the local union, which has an alleged grievance against the American Bridge Company that if they think it advisable he will call a general strike against the company.

While the state board of mediation and arbitration is waiting for a reply from the management of the company to its proposition with the local strikers the union, it is said, will take no action. In case the effort to arrange a conference fails it is declared that a general strike may be asked for. The employment of nonunion men on a railroad bridge job in this city by the Boston Bridge Company, the subcontractor, is the cause of the local union's strike.
