Correspondence of the Herald.
Sachem's Head, 23d July, 1844.
It is a source of wonder among the numerous visitors from all sections, why do we not see more New Haven fashion here?— Hartford, Albany, Troy, and Utica are represented—all appear delighted. It must be they are not aware of our social cotillion parties,—fishing excursions,—delightful sea bathing,—and moonlight strolls upon the rocks. Here we have fashion, beauty and wealth in abundance, and all social in one common parlor.—One large family of gentlemen and ladies, in the true sense of the term.
Our host, although good at Julep mixing, (when he can't avoid it,) makes an excellent chorister at the Sabbath service in the parlor, where nearly all assemble, although some, I am informed, absent on account of our orthodox worship. It is difficult to designate the belles of the season among so many. Strong indications of future happy results among the bright eyes force themselves upon the mind of observers. It has been thought best that none of the young men should be left here alone, but all depart together for fear lest suicide might ensue.
