POMFRET AGAIN OPEN
The opening of the Pomfret Neighborhood
Art Shop on Tuesday restored
to its patrons and the summer visitor
at large a shopping attraction
that has been greatly missed. The
Art Shop is at the back of Pomfret
Hall, and when the Rectory School
barn meeting fire to the hall the
valuable store of novelties there had
to be removed. The shop was discontinued
to its last furnishing, and
has not since been restored until
now.
This gift shop is one of the best and
best supplied in New England.
Modestly housed and little advertised,
It is better equipped than any better known place. It is of the nature
of a "Woman's Exchange". Anyone
can place articles on sale here, under
the rules of the organization. A
quiet little business, its annual sales
amount up to a surprising figure. The
line carried runs from homemade
confectionery (by order only) to antiques.
There are some rare and beautiful
patchwork quilts, handmade rugs,
footstools, a little stoneware and
china. There is a full line of modern
novelties and gifts, including cards.
There are articles of needlework:
towels, bureau covers, table appointments,
etc. There are beautiful silk
der woven neck scarves of lovely
color combinations. And there are
always the Good Shepherd Wools with
directions for those who need them.
The art shop is open only on Tuesday
afternoons after 2:30.
