Local 12 Can Help You
We in organized labor find that through no fault of our own, in this day and age, have to talk about the possibility of relief. We are ashamed to think that decent, hard-working people—thousands of them—are going to have to ask for help from the city or county to tide them over this nightmare period in their lives.
But it's happening to them and it's up to the rest of us to make things as easy as possible for them.
Local 12 headquarters, 425 Winthrop St., has organized itself to give every member in a difficulty, a helping hand. Every UAW representative now is equipped to give advice and assistance to any member who needs it. Assistant Regional Director Orville Beemer has been able to offer real help to the most difficult cases.
In cases where legal assistance is necessary, Local 12 may be able to furnish legal counsel without cost to a needy member.
The relief rolls, while not very heavy at the present time, are beginning to swell as some of our unemployed members approach the end of their 26-week compensation period. It is important that those of our members who face this problem and will soon have to go on relief, understand the problems they will face.
We suggest that all these members, and all others with problems of any kind, consult Assistant Director Beemer or any of the Union representatives at Local 12 Hall. You are entitled to all the help you need, and they will be glad to serve you.
