The cultivation of the sugar cane in the East-Indies has for some years been adopted, and is said to be now carried on with great success and to a great extent.

Sugars are become a common cargo, and are shipped, particularly from Calcutta, for America, Ostend, France and England.

Soft sugars of the best quality, similar to West-India clayed sugars, can be bought in Calcutta at nine current rupees per hundred weight (including expenses of package, putting on board, &c.) which is exactly equal to 3s 7.5d Pennsylvania currency, or five dollars.
