Former FHA Head Under Fire

Washington (P) - A House subcommittee learned this week that a Seattle builder paid a hospital bill for Quentin Staples, then Federal Housing Administration head in Alaska.

It was learned that the hospital bill was paid by Harry Lewis who built 1,042 housing units in Anchorage and received 15 million dollars in FHA financing.

The report also mentioned gifts by Lewis to other FHA officials in Alaska. The Justice Department received a report of the transactions several months ago.

Staples told a government official he repaid Lewis for the hospital bill.
