Full Text
Opponents of J. B. Saylor, candidate for county commissioner, are endeavoring to job him with respects to his attitude upon county division.
In the east end of the county they seek to show that he opposes division in this city and in the west end they are striving to paint him as a divisionist. Mr. Saylor himself is here today and in speaking of this subject, said:
"I have investments in the east end of the county and also at Echo, where I am the president of the Echo bank.
Therefore I am taking no radical stand either for or against county division.
At a meeting held at Ferndale when the subject first came up some people insisted I serve as chairman and I did so. That meeting was called to discuss the subject, not to take any particular side upon the question.
At the request of neighbors and friends in the east end of the county I contributed $10 to the division fund.
As the question of county division will be settled by the people of the state tomorrow, that is something that need not enter into the race for commissioner. If I am elected commissioner the division controversy will not prevent me from performing my duties fairly and faithfully."
