12th says:
New Hampshire has honored herself in her recent
election. One year ago, at the close of a
most exciting contest and upon the largest poll
the State has ever known, the opposition Governor
had a plurality of barely 58 votes, while
3300 were cast for the Old Line Whig candidate.
The Opposition barely carried the Legislature
though the Kansas question was directly before
the people, and the Presidential election in prospect.
Now, with Mr Buchanan just inaugurated,
both Houses of the next Congress fixed against
us, the Supreme Court virtually outlawing us,
and the doughface press everywhere asserting
that "bleeding Kansas," has ceased to suffer,
the Republicans, on a moderate poll, carry
every branch of the State Government by
some three thousand majority, re-elect their
three members of Congress, and thus show to
the world that the Republican spirit of the Free
States is buoyant and invincible.
