FISH KILL. October 17:

Extract of a letter from an officer on the lines

"Sir Guy's cow thieves still continue to infest this country. A party of seven came out a few days ago, in order to steal as usual: Yesterday a party of Sheldon's dragoons fell in with and took 4 of them, one of whom they wounded: and this morning a party of the infantry of Sheldon's legion, killed one and took another of the same seven: so that but one of them escaped. Five are now confined here; two of which are wounded: They all justly merit death as thieves, but their fate is not yet known. Their names are Van Vleck, Webb, Mills, Scovell, and one more, whose name I don't recollect. Prisoners--the one who escaped was M'Fee, a very noted villain."
