The records of Congressmen Samuel W. Yorty, California's 14th District; Henderson L. Lanham, Georgia's 7th District, and Charles B. Deane, North Carolina's 8th District, spell out top-grade representation for the people.
They are always on the firing line to protect the welfare of all working men and women and to support legislation that will bring them additional gains.
Attempts of a few to obtain special benefits at the expense of the many always encounter stiff opposition from these three Democrats.
Congressman Yorty of California, a member of the House Interior and Insular Affairs Committee, was elected to the 82nd Congress Nov. 7, 1950. He was born in Nebraska and has resided in California since 1927.
Congressman Yorty, who is an attorney, was a member of California Legislature 1937-40 and 1949-50. He served as a captain in combat intelligence in the Air Corps in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands during World War II.
Congressman Lanham of Georgia has served in the 80th, 81st and 82nd Congresses. He is a member of the House Committees on Foreign Affairs and Expenditures in the Executive Departments.
He received a bachelor of arts degree from University of Georgia in 1910, bachelor of laws degree from the same university in 1911 and a master of arts degree from Harvard University Graduate School in 1912.
He was chairman, board of education of Rome, Ga. 1918-19 and member of the House of Representatives from Floyd County, Georgia General Assembly, 1929-33 and 1937-40. He served as solicitor general of Rome Judicial Court from 1941-46.
Representative Lanham is a member of the Odd Fellows, Masons and Rome Kiwanis Club.
Congressman Deane of North Carolina, a member of the House Committees on Banking and Currency, and House Administration, was elected to the 80th Congress and reelected to the two succeeding Congresses.
He was educated at Trinity Park School, Durham, and received a bachelor of laws degree from Wake Forest College (N.C.) in 1923. A licensed attorney, he was register of deeds of Richmond County 1926-34, and retired to engage in the practice of law and in the operation of a general insurance business.
Representative Deane was compiler of the U. S. Congressional Directory from 1935 to 1939, and held an administrative and legal position with the Wage and Hour Division in Washington in 1939.
He served as chairman of Richmond County Democratic Executive Committee for 12 years and is a trustee of Wake Forest College. He is a Mason, Rotarian and an Elk.
