MIRACLE AT LIEGE.—A Belgian paper, the Journal de Liege, gives a touching account of a most remarkable event which took place on the 27th of November last. A man who had been confined to his bed for many years by paralysis, complicated by erysipelas and numerous abscesses, etc., after having been entirely given up by the medical men of Liege, was restored to perfect health within two minutes after drinking and applying to his body some water from Notre Dame de Lourdes. He had read the work of M. Lasserre, was filled with faith in the intercession of our Lady of Lourdes, and implored his family to write to the cure for some of the far-famed water. On the day of its arrival he made use of it, first reciting the Litanies of the Blessed Virgin; and Dr. C. Termonia, of No. 16 Rue du Pot-d'Or, Liege, certified formally that this man, Pierre Joseph Hanquet, of No. 17 Rue Cheravoie, in the same city, whom he had known for four years and a half as an incurable sufferer, was instantaneously cured. The doctor adds, as most interesting to the medical world, that an acute and extensive erythema, due to lying in the same position for so many years, disappeared at the moment of the cure. Dr. Termonia says lastly: "The wonderful cure of this patient can only be looked upon as the result of an intervention which is quite beyond all the laws of science." This certificate is dated two months after the event, and testifies, at that time, to the permanence of the cure. Hundreds of persons have seen P. J. Hanquet, and have given praise and thanks to God and Our Lady. Doubters may doubt still, if so minded; for ourselves, while awaiting respectfully the judgment of the Church, we believe and rejoice.
