Democrats Go to Work.
Democrats are waking up to the importance of hard work and will not be found wanting when the canvass opens. Never before in years has a local ticket been in the field which awakened more enthusiasm among the democrats than the one recently placed in nomination. Then again, democrats feel encouraged to work because they know that the republicans have no earthly show of electing Perkins, and further, that by united work Lukens can be elected. The republicans will lose hundreds of votes in this county through the national vote, especially in Moline, which has always been the republican 'God-send' of the county, but which is now thoroughly and irrevocably national. Every fair minded republican knows that without Moline, Perkins cannot be elected, and every democrat who stops to figure the loss the republicans are sure to sustain, cannot help seeing that the success of Lukens can be attained by united effort. It behooves every true democrat to be on the alert. Leave no stone unturned; go to work at once. See that your neighbor works. Leave nothing undone that will contribute to success, and victory is ours. Republicans, of course, endeavor to belittle your chances, they will tell you that your vote is thrown away, that you are only helping the National ticket. All this and a thousand and one other things they will tell you, but believe nothing. The republican party in this county, in this state and in the entire country is dead. In this county nothing but a withered corpse remains of what was once a power in politics. The halcyon days have gone and a new era is dawning which will forever bury the now scattered remains of the dead republican party. Democrats, do not be deterred from doing your duty, stand up manfully, earnestly and all the time for your ticket and you must win. Do this work constantly, energetically, and confidently and next November will bring you a glorious reward—a grand victory, a triumph of principle, and a well-earned harvest—successful.
