[Baltimore Sun, 4th.]
The trial of certain of the registers of voters of Baltimore city, against whom charges have been preferred of incompetency and misconduct in office during the November election of 1880, commenced yesterday morning in the armory of the City Hall before Governor William T. Hamilton. Secretary-of-State James T. Briscoe attended with the Governor. General Bradley T. Johnson and Joseph S. Heuisler appeared as counsel in behalf of those making the charges, and James A. L. McClure, Bernard Carter, and J. Upshur Dennis for the registers. Registration-books from the clerk's office of the Superior Court were produced, in custody of Thomas B. Gaither, deputy clerk, and from the sheriff's office, in custody of Deputy-Sheriff John Kelly. A large number of spectators attended during the trial, including a number of city officers and well-known citizens. The case will be further heard to-day.
