On Tuesday the 22nd ult. came on a Trial, on a Prosecution, for altering the Number of a Lottery Ticket, turning the Figure 1 into a 7, which made it the Number that drew a Prize of 1500, which Money was demanded of the Signer of the Ticket, who having sign'd none of near the Number to which the Ticket was altered, immediately discovered and declared the Forgery. The Owner insisted upon Payment, declaring there could be no Forgery, for that the Ticket had not been out of his Custody since he bought of the Signer, this occasioned the Prosecution; but it appear'd upon Trial that in Fact the Ticket had been Part of the Time out of his Custody, but he was acquitted of the Forgery and discharged.
