Full Text
The Ladies who go to court to see the Prince, are
admitted into the room about 40 at a time. The cra-
dle (or, as we may venture to call it the bed) upon
which his Royal Highness lies, is placed on a small
elevation, and under a canopy of state. The head
and the sides, which come no higher than the feather
bed, are covered with crimson velvet, and lined with
white satin. From the head rises an ornament of
carved work gilt, with a royal coronet in the middle.
The upper sheet is laced with a very broad beautiful
braid, turning over at top, upon a magnificent quilt
of crimson velvet and gold lace; the whole breadth
of the braid appearing also along the sides, hanging
down from underneath. Near the cradle sits his Nurse; a small velvet cushion lying on her knee, for
the Prince to rest on when out of cradle. And on
each side stands, in an erect posture, a fair mute,
gently rocking the royal infant.
