I. Nore, who with his four sons conducts a dairy, transfer and other enterprises under the firm name of Nore and Sons, returned on the Victoria from a trip to Puget Sound points and Portland.
The greater part of his time was spent in visiting dairies, large and small, investigating new and practical methods of efficient dairy management. He spent one day, which he considers was very profitable to him, in accompanying the county agent from Mt. Vernon, Washington on his rounds.
Three Guernsey cows were brought back by Mr. Nore to add to the dairy herd which now consists of 18 cows, all but three of which are Guernseys.
The Nores recently bought modern equipment for a new dairy unit consisting of barn, milk house and exercise yards. The buildings will be located on a tract of land about 100 feet further out the highway from the present barn. The new barn, which will be thirty-six by eighty-one feet, will be constructed 150 feet back from the road.
The plans provide for a warmly built barn with abundant light and ventilation, steel stanchions, individual drinking bowls, floor of composition asphalt, with pressed concrete where the cows stand and concrete gutters. There are stalls for 28 cows, calf pens and stall for the thoroughbred Guernsey bull which the Nores bought last year.
The milk house which adjoins the dairy barn will be fitted with complete sanitary and labor saving equipment. The same boiler that furnishes the steam for sterilizing bottles and cans, will be utilized for the heating system of the barn.
Blueprints for the dairy unit were secured from the manufacturing firm from whom the Nores bought the new equipment.
When the new dairy barn is completed, the present barn will be used as a garage for the dairy and transfer trucks.
