Winners of the annual Roosevelt home work shop bird house contest were announced today. They are, Scott Woods, a ninth grader, first prize; Jerry Connolly and John Borgerson, tied for second; and Jack Pillsbury and Daryl Chamberlain, tied for third; James Brown was fourth; Jerry Gooding, fifth; Lawrence Bailes, sixth; and Bruce Pester, seventh.
Those receiving honorable mention are Ernest Campbell, Thomas Burns, Daniel Campbell, David Lobbestael, Keith Gundrum, Jack Spencer, James Bell, Richard McElroy and Edward Hewitt.
The contest was conducted over a month's time and at the conclusion about 25 entries were placed on display in the Roosevelt School foyer. The student committee in charge was Gillis Turner, James Rynearson and Richard Wright.
The bird houses were judged by Louis Golczynski, Matt Lappinen, and Harry Broad, of the Roosevelt School faculty. They were judged on craftsmanship, suitability or usability and design. Mr. Golczynski judged on suitability; Mr. Lappinen, craftsmanship, and Mr. Broad, design.
The awards to the boys in the first division winners will be home work shop tools which are being contributed by local merchants.
The Roosevelt home work shop has been organized about nine years under the sponsorship of Duane Chamberlain. The group will close its activities in May and at that time will decide the boys who have had the best work shops and who have made the most progress. Plans for a kite contest are undecided.
